New Travel Rule for Seychellois visiting Europe
From mid-2025, travellers from Seychelles and 60 non-EU countries will need to complete the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) process before visiting any country in Europe’s Schengen Zone. This system aims to enhance security by pre-screening travelers before they arrive.
Key Details for Seychellois Travelers:
ETIAS Introduction: The ETIAS system is expected to go live in the first half of 2025. Initially planned for 2021, it has been delayed but will soon be mandatory for anyone visiting the 32 countries in the Schengen Zone, including popular destinations like France, Italy, Germany, and Spain.
Who Needs ETIAS: ETIAS will be required for all Seychellois travelers visiting any of the 32 Schengen countries for short stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period, whether for tourism or business.
How to Apply: The ETIAS registration will be completed online and should take around 10 minutes. You’ll need your passport, an email address, and a debit or credit card to pay the €7 application fee (for travelers aged 18–70). Applicants under 18 or over 70 will not need to pay the fee but are still required to apply.
Processing Time: Most applications will be approved within minutes, but it can take up to 96 hours. In some cases, further documentation may be requested, or an interview may be required, which could extend the process.
Validity: Once approved, ETIAS will be valid for three years or until your passport expires. During this time, you can travel to the Schengen Zone multiple times without reapplying, as long as each stay is no longer than 90 days within a 180-day period.
Important to Note: ETIAS is not a visa but a travel authorisation, similar to Seychelles’ Electronic Border System. It is designed for citizens of visa-free countries visiting Europe. You won’t need to reapply for each trip as long as your authorization is still valid.
Be sure to complete your ETIAS registration before booking flights or accommodation to avoid any issues at the border once the system is in place!
